Why convert
svg is drawn with points and lines, so it stays sharp when enlarged, but some messengers and document programs will not accept it. png is accepted almost everywhere.
What happens to the picture
png does not drop any detail and keeps a transparent background. Unlike svg, though, it becomes a picture of fixed size, and it turns blurry if you enlarge it later. Choose the size on the screen.
